How did it come to my computer?

Cleanserp.net invaded in my browser via a website that dealt with the free downloading of software, I was trying to download the crack version. When the download was complete and the installation had started there was no prompt by the software’s installation wizard about the installation of the new search engine. It automatically downloaded and installed my Chrome browser. The astonishing and amazing fact is: it only infected my Chrome and not the Mozilla or Microsoft Edge. They remained unaffected. This leads me to the conclusion that this malware affects the browser via which it had entered your computer.

What problem did it cause?

It did not cause problems on the front end except for the fact that whenever you try to search something in your address bar the malware gets activated and you end up seeing a buffer in your web surfing experience. The malware eventually redirects you to the page where you were supposed to head to but by the virtue of Yahoo search engine and not the default search engine you were using: in my case it was Google. Moreover, you never know what information is this search engine Cleanserp.net tracking. Hence, for the sake of privacy and safety, you should remove the malware as soon as possible.

What is cleanserp.net?

Cleanserp.net is bundled with other free software that you download off of the Internet. Cleanserp.net is a redirect “Browser Hijacker”, for non-experienced users often called a virus or malware. It takes over your currently default installed browser, this might be Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera or even Safari for MacOS. When installing this browser hijacker it will set the homepage and search engine for your web browser to http://cleanserp.net. (Cleanserp.net browser hijacker).

Unfortunately, some free downloads do not adequately disclose that other software will also be installed and you may find that you have installed Cleanserp.net without your knowledge.

When infected with the Cleanserp.net browser hijacker, common symptoms include:
  • Changing the web browser’s default homepage to Cleanserp.net
  • Changing the browser’s search provider, built-in search box to Cleanserp.net
  • Ability to modify the ‘new tab’ functionality to launch the modified search portal page
  • Loads into the web browser via an extension or add-on
By taking over your browser, the Cleanserp.net redirect generates traffic to the Cleanserp.net website for revenue. This traffic is important for them as it delivers information such as search queries, the location from their “forced” visitors using IP addresses and much more. This information can be used for multiple purposes, which is often for your privacy, not a good thing.

Cleanserp.net redirect on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox.Either way, it is often the computer user itself which allowed the Cleanserp.net redirect infect the browser.

The hidden installation of a redirect is often done using scheduled tasks, malicious windows services or update managers.
You need to be quite experienced in detecting these malicious techniques and therefore a general umbrella term such as a virus or malware is what these adware programs might be called. As for now, adware is not as harmless as it was before.

How did the Cleanserp.net redirect get installed on my Browser? (Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox)

When you download and install software from the internet, make sure there are no additional offers or useful enhancements installed as third-party software.
Some installation (download) managers do not adequately disclose that other software, such as this Cleanserp.net redirectadwareBrowser Hijacker, or a virus will also be installed on your computer.
You should overview the End User License Agreements (EULA) or their Terms of Agreement before downloading and installing software onto your computer. Do not click too fast through the installation process using a Quick Install or Next button.
